A. Thomas “Tommy” Dewey was born and raised in New Orleans, LA. He is a Jesuit graduate, class of 1984. Tommy served in the U.S. Army until 1988, where he was stationed in Germany and Ft. Benning, Georgia. He completed his Basic and Advanced Individual Training at Ft. McClelland in Alabama. While in the Army, Tommy received several Commendations including Army Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal First Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Achievement Medal Second Oak Leaf Cluster, Certificate of Achievement Medal and Honorable Discharge on March 13, 1993.
Tommy successfully completed the 23rd Reserve Police Training Academy in 1989 and the 54th Basic Police Training Academy in 1990. He graduated with a General Studies degree with a concentration in Criminal Justice from Louisiana State University in 1992.
Tommy was a Baton Rouge Police Department officer from 1990 until 2007 when he retired as a Sergeant. During his time as an officer, Tommy worked in Narcotics, Robbery, Homicide, Uniform Patrol, Special Response SWAT team and worked with the DWI task force overtime enforcement for over 10 years. He is certified in Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and the Intoxilyzer 5000. Tommy participated in Advanced DWI Training through the Louisiana State Police Academy at Northwestern State University. He received 22 letters of Commendation while on the Baton Rouge city police department. Some examples include, Operation Rescue 1992, Betty Smothers Case with apprehension of suspects, SRT response to Hostage Situation at Bank One Tower Crawford & Lewis Law firm, stopping and apprehending a suspect during an armed robbery in progress, apprehension and confession of Roderick Ferrell and four others (dubbed the Vampire Killers), SRT dignitary protection for Foreign Dignitaries, 1st Lady Laura Bush, and a delegation of United States Senators and Representatives for the funeral of Russell Long. He also received the Life Saving Award in 1997.
Tommy attended Southern University School of Law while working full time with the police department and graduated Cum Laude in 2007. He has been licensed to practice in the State of Louisiana since October 2007. Tommy is a small business owner and partner at Dewey & Braud Law, LLC in Baton Rouge.
Tommy is a Republican. His professional memberships include Baton Rouge Bar Association, Louisiana Bar Association, and the American Bar Association.
Tommy is married to Shannon Andre-Dewey and is the proud father of Mason (22), Keely (24), Ashton (23), Dominic (22), Aidan (16) and Cole (20). His family also has two fur members; a lab named Lulu and a boxer named Zeus. They are active members of St. Jude Catholic Church in Baton Rouge.
